Gunners’ revival continues

HARARE - Zifa Northern Region Division One League side Gunners continued after they came from behind to beat Mushowani Stars 2-1 in a closely contested encounter here.

Mushowani were the first to score through second half substitute Charles Chiutsa in the 57th minute.

The hosts, however, rallied back and equalised through James Chitereki’s penalty seven minutes later.

David Rhediyoni completed the comeback with an easy tap in the 73rd minute.

With the win, Gunners moved into third position with 23 points and now trail log leaders Ngezi Platinum by eight.

After the match Mushowani coach Jostein Mathuthu cried foul and blamed the defeat on poor officiating.

“Normally, I don’t complain about match officials but if we don’t speak out against this then who will do so?” he said.

“But for this one, I thought the referee decided the match; look that was not a penalty the officials decided the game today.

“I thought our opponents today got a helping hand for them to collect maximum points and I am not happy with that penalty.”

Gunners coach Tapfumaneyi Dodo praised his charges for a good game.

“I think my boys played well today, the first half we did not play well but after the break we played well we were more aggressive and I think this helped us a lot in terms of getting goals,” he said.

“My boys are really playing good footballs I am enjoyed by the way they are playing I hope they will continue with this performance.

“When you are a coach you always set your tyargets and when you are in a race like this every coach want to win the title.”

The match really came to life after the breather when the visitors found some space on the right resulting in captain Zivanai Mhanda crossing for Chiutsa to score with an easy tap in.

It was the former CAPS United midfielder’s first touch of the game.

After the goal, Gunners started to dominate the match and were awarded a spot kick after Mushowani goalkeeper Admire Shonga brought down Gunners midfielder Patrick Makuvaza inside the box.

Chitereki stepped up and sent Shonga wrong side to level the scores and then Rhedeyoni stepped up to seal the win for the home side moments later.
