Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is the only African leader who “holds the continent together” and still “pushes for an African agenda”.
Malema was speaking in Braamfontein on Thursday afternoon where he discussed President Jacob Zuma’s handling of the Omar al-Bashir debacle.
The Sudanese president was allowed to slip out of South Africa despite a court interdict barring him from leaving.
Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for genocide and crimes against humanity.
The EFF says if it wasn’t for Mugabe, Zuma would have arrested al-Bashir out of ignorance.
Malema says Mugabe is the only African president who makes decisions in the interest of the entire continent without apologising for them.
“We may not agree with him on this or that issue but on a broader perspective, he’s the man that represents the kind of Africa we want… An Africa where Africans own their land and their economy.”
