Mutanga, Angus to lead Young Sables

HARARE - Falcon College hooker Brian Mutanga and St George’s College centre Bruce Angus will share the captaincy duties when the Old Mutual Zimbabwe Under-18 rugby team battle for honours at the annual Coca Cola Craven Week.

The 52nd Coca-Cola Under-18 Craven Week takes place in Stellenbosch, South Africa from July 12 to 18 with the Young Sables hoping for a better outing after losing all three matches last year.

The Young Sables camped over the weekend at Gateway High School and are expected to camp again on July 7.

Mutanga and Bruce are five players who represented the country at last year’s Craven Week.

The team also includes a number of players who have graduated from the national Under-17 team.

“The reason we have two captains is because every player that goes to Craven Week has to play three games, sometimes your captain will be dropped for another player,” Young Sables coach Godwin Murambiwa said.

Mutanga has been an impressive ball carrier for Falcon College and has been one of the reasons the Mad Dogs are undefeated since their December tour of South Africa.

The 22-member team includes eight Falcon College rugby players.

Bruce who is, however, nursing an injury has also been explosive for St George's College this season.

Saints became the first team to stop Falcon’s winning streak when they held the Esigodin-based school to a 19-19 draw two weeks ago.
