A 27-YEAR-OLD Gwanda man allegedly raped an 81-year-old woman at knife-point and shoved sand into her private parts after the sexual assault, a magistrate has heard. Mlolozi Nkala of Chelesa village Glass Block 2 allegedly raped the granny, who cannot be named for legal reasons, while she was fetching water in Umzingwane River.
Prosecuting, Johannes Tlou alleged that the incident happened on May 28 at around 10AM. Nkala ambushed the woman at the river and grabbed her from behind. “The accused person produced a knife and threatened to assault her if she screamed. He then ordered the complainant to lie down on her back and she complied. He then raised her legs, removed her panties and raped her,” Tlou said.
“During the intercourse, the complainant took the accused’s knife which he had placed on the ground and tried to free herself but was overpowered by the accused. In the process of trying to take his knife from her, the complainant sustained a cut on the middle finger and palm.” After raping her, Nkala is alleged to have poured some sand on her privates and then threatened to stab her if she screamed.
Nkala allegedly left the granny at the river. She walked to her homestead and informed her children about the ordeal. The old woman’s family teamed up with other villagers and tracked Nkala’s footprints until they found him hiding at his grandfather’s homestead in Singungwe village.
A report was made to the police and he was arrested. Nkala pleaded not guilty to rape charges when he appeared before regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza on Wednesday. The court rolled with laughter when he asked his alleged victim to describe his manhood.
“I heard the complainant telling this court that when I raped her as she alleges, my erect manhood was straight. Your Worship, that’s not true because my manhood erect or not, it bends sideways,” he said. He was remanded in custody to October 1 for continuation of trial. chronicle
