HARARE - Zimbabwe’s BMX riders held their own at the 2015 BMX National Age Group Championship Series in Alexandra Park, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa over the weekend.
Reigning Junior Sportswoman of the Year Rebekah Oberholzer was the pick of the local riders after winning three gold medals over two legs in which she competed in the girls’ 7-8-year-old category.
Daniel Johnson, who was riding in the 11-12-year-old boys’ class, harvested three silver medals while Ben Oberholzer, who was competing in 9-10-year-old boys’ class, claimed three gold medals.
The trio will take part in the Zimbabwe nationals before joining a 13-man Zimbabwe team that will battle for honours at the UCI BMX World Championships in Belgium.
The Zimbabwean team leaves on July 16 for the city of Antwerp that will host the event between July 21 and 25.
The Zimbabwe team has been preparing for the World Championships since February under the guidance of long-serving coach Tafi Machingaidze.
