HARARE - Zifa Northern Region Division One League side ZRP FC continued to pile pressure on the leading pack after they came from behind to beat Herentals 3-1 here yesterday.
Herentals were the first to score through Edgar Mhungu’s 13th minute penalty.
The visitors, however, rallied back and equalised through Innocent Nyoni five minutes before the break.
Nyoni completed his brace in 62th minute after he headed in a cross from the left flank.
Manatsa Magura made sure for of the three points for the three points when he headed the third in the final minute.
After the match ZRP FC coach Arthur Tutani was happy with the performance his charges.
“The match was very tough and I think the better team of the day won the match,” said the former Black Rhinos coach.
“I think we played well today; we dominated our opponents for the better part of the game. I’m happy we are playing as a team, the boys are fighting for each other and we hope to continue with that spirit to the end.
“Every match that we engage in from now on will be like a cup final. We want to collect as many points as we can to target the top position.”
Tutani was quick to warn his players not to get carried away with their recent fine performance.
“I told my boys that we need to stay focused and concentrate on our game. We cannot say that we are targeting to win the title at this stage,” he said.
“Our target is to continue playing interesting football and win our matches so that at the end of the season we will survive relegation.”
Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva blamed his defence for yesterday’s defeat.
“I think my defenders are the chief culprits on this defeat; we allowed our opponents too much space in the box,” he said.
“We did not play our normal game today; generally we were out of form today. But we now need to forget about this defeat and start concentrate on our next games so that we can bounce back to winning ways.”
