The City of Harare said it has just finished running its June payroll and is working on its July ZiG and United States dollar payrolls.

In an interview at the City of Harare Employee Wellness and FunFair last week, Harare mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume said the city is up to date with its United States dollar payments but is lagging behind in terms of its ZiG payments.

“Our salaries are pegged in US dollars and paid at the prevailing rate. We also have a component that is paid in US dollars,” he said.

“Sometimes we lag behind with the ZiG and sometimes with the US. We are aware that we are current in as far as the US is concerned, but we are lagging behind in as far as the ZiG is concerned.

“I think we are just finishing the June payroll, so we need to finish the July payroll as far as the ZiG is concerned and to round off the US part of the payroll.”

A municipal workers’ union representative at the wellness and funfair had earlier said they are expecting a change in the payment of salaries.

“His Worship the mayor, I heard you said the Government has given you a consignment of chemicals for the next six months.

“Which means from the meetings that we hold as Central Works Council, we have been told that most of the money is channeled towards service delivery.

“So we are expecting a change in the payment of our salaries.”
