The first phase of the development of residential stands under the Munhumutapa Housing Project at Dunnotar Farm in Mashonaland East Province is almost complete, with allocation expected to be done in May this year.
The Government has contracted Leengate Civil Engineering Pvt Limited to develop the land where youths and war veterans, among others, will benefit from the initiative.
Recently, ZANU PF youth chairman for Mashonaland East, Cde Isaac Tasikani, visited the site to assess progress and expressed satisfaction with the way the housing project is progressing.
In an interview at the site, Cde Tasikani thanked President Mnangagwa for his commitment to transforming youths’ livelihoods.
“As the youth, we want to thank President Mnangagwa for fulfilling his promise to us. In 2021, he said youths should have proper residential stands where they would build their own houses, and now we are witnessing his promise being fulfilled here at Dunnotar Farm, where thousands of residential stands are being developed for youths,” he said.
“As we speak, the contractor is on site, and there is significant progress. About 1500 residential stands will be ready for allocation in May. So we want to thank our President for this.”
Cde Tasikani added that youths in Mashonaland East have also received tractors, trucks as well as land for agricultural purposes.
Meanwhile, he implored youths to come out in their numbers and meet President Mnangagwa on the National Youth Day commemorations scheduled for February 21, 2026, at Igava Business Centre in Marondera.
“We are also happy as youths that President Mnangagwa is coming to our province for the National Youth Day commemorations,” he said.
“It is a blessing to us, and we are excited. I want to urge youths from all the corners of the province to come out in their numbers and meet the President.
“It is going to be an exciting day for us as a province, and we are already looking forward to it.”
Leengate Civil Engineering Private Limited site engineer Partson Masiiwa said critical work is almost complete.
“The project has about 600 ha, and we have divided it into four phases. Right now we are working on the first phase of the project, which has a road network of around 20 km and we have already covered about 80 percent of the road network at base one level and are ready for tarring.
“We have covered water and also sewer reticulation. As we speak, we are seized with stormwater drainage and access culverts.
“We are expecting the first phase to be complete around April or May this year so that beneficiaries of this phase can start building.”
Engineer Masiiwa said they have already started opening roads for the second phase.
The project has already created employment for local youths, who thanked authorities for the developments.
“I am happy because this project has created employment for the youth. We are kept busy at the same time we are gaining experience while keeping ourselves away from bad habits like drug and substance abuse,” a youth, Godsway Beta from Dema, said.
Mr Batsiraishe Mavodza, another youth, who is optimistic of benefiting from a residential stand from the project, thanked President Mnangagwa for the initiative.
“There is great work being done at this farm, and we are happy to be part of it. This community is also benefiting because, as you can see, roads are being constructed, which means people around here will be using them,” he said.
“Coming to the project itself, there is significant progress as we have witnessed the water and sewer reticulation phase being completed. We are thankful to our President for always remembering us. He is committed to seeing our livelihoods being transformed.”
