VILLAGERS in Piki village, under Chief Zimunya in Mutare, were left shell-shocked after a 19-year-old man sexually violated a chicken.

Sex-crazed Carrington Mutasa was convicted at the Mutare Magistrates’ Court for bestiality.

He was sentenced to eight months in prison.

However, three months were suspended for five years and the remaining five months were converted to 175 hours of community service.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Mutasa went to his neighbour’s homestead on September 16, around 5.30pm, when no one was home.

He proceeded to the fowl run, grabbed a hen and sexually violated it.

The incident came to light when the complainant’s granddaughter saw a flustered Mutasa leaving the fowl run.

She alerted her grandmother, who inspected the birds and discovered one hen had sustained severe injuries.

“The victim discovered that the hen had a large wound on its cloaca area,” said the NPAZ.

The grandmother raised the alarm and neighbours quickly apprehended Mutasa.

He was dragged back to the homestead, where he confessed to the act.

A report was filed at Zimunya Police Post, leading to his arrest.

The incident left villagers deeply disturbed, with many saying they will never look at their chickens the same way again.

In a similarly shocking case in Figtree, Matabeleland South province, a 33-year-old man from Cliffton Farm was arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual acts with three goats.

Two of the animals reportedly died from the abuse.

Brighton Mkandla is accused of raping goats belonging to Cecilia Sibanda (85) and Mayibongwe Ndlovu (28). He was, however, caught in the act with a third goat owned by Elmon Ndlovu (65). — Manicaland Bureau

Moments later, he returned armed with an electric cable and lashed his uncle repeatedly until the victim fled to his bedroom for safety.

The assailant was convicted of physical abuse under the Domestic Violence Act by a magistrate in Chipinge.

He received an 18-month jail sentence, with six months suspended on condition of good behaviour. The remaining 12 months were converted to 420 hours of community service at Musani Primary School. — Manicaland Bureau

Teen girl sold as sex slave for US$40

A 30-year-old woman from Buhera has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after trafficking a girl (14) to Mutare and selling her to a truck driver for US$40.

Pelagia Zindiye lured the teenager on June 29, claiming they were travelling to Mutare to collect property.

The following day, the girl secretly left home and accompanied Zindiye to the city.

Upon arrival, Zindiye handed over the minor to truck driver Steward Gororo, who took her to a restaurant, locked her in a private room and raped her.

After the assault, Zindiye instructed the frightened girl not to tell anyone about the incident.

A tip-off led to Zindiye’s arrest.

Gororo is still at large.

The Mutare regional court found Zindiye guilty of human trafficking and sentenced her to a decade behind bars.

Police are appealing to anyone with information on Gororo’s whereabouts to come forward. — Manica Post

Bogus nurse shocker at Mpilo

Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo has been rocked by yet another scandal after a 25-year-old woman was caught using a forged Ordinary Level certificate enrol with its nursing school.

Sandra Kudzaishe Ndege, from Murewa, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Abednico Ndebele facing charges of fraud and forgery.

She pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody until September 29.

According to court documents, Ndege failed her Ordinary Levels twice but allegedly forged a Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) certificate showing eight passes, including English, Mathematics and Science.

Armed with the fake document, she applied to Mpilo’s nursing school in September 2023 and was accepted.

She trained for nearly two years and received a monthly salary during that time.

“In September 2023, she applied for a place to train as a Registered General Nurse using the fake certificate as proof of educational qualifications.

“Mpilo Hospital School of Nursing acted upon the misrepresentation and enrolled her,” read the court papers.

The scam was uncovered in July when Mpilo sent her academic records to Zimsec for verification.

Officials confirmed the certificate was fraudulent, leading to her arrest.

Investigations revealed that in 2018, under candidate number 030769/3018, Ndege passed only three of seven subjects, failing both Mathematics and Science.

A 2019 re-sit saw her pass just one subject.

Her forged certificate, however, listed top grades such as Agriculture (A), Shona (A), English (B) and Mathematics (C).

This incident comes just six months after another scandal at Mpilo, where Taurayi Prosper Vanhuvaone (29) posed as a medical doctor for two years.

Operating under the alias “Dr Prosper Mpofu”, he treated patients, ran an illegal office inside the hospital and conned desperate jobseekers with fake nursing placements.

Vanhuvaone was sentenced to seven years in prison in March, with part of the sentence suspended.

Mpilo’s chief medical officer Dr Narcisius Dzvanga said the hospital has since tightened its vetting systems to prevent further breaches.

“We deeply regret these lapses and have taken steps to ensure this never happens again,” he said. — Bulawayo Bureau
