Public consultations for the 2026 National Budget have officially started, with legislators from the Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion engaging citizens across the country to gather input.

The consultations, which are a constitutional requirement, aim to ensure inclusivity in the national budgeting process by incorporating the voices of ordinary Zimbabweans. To effectively cover all provinces, the Portfolio Committee has been divided into several teams tasked with conducting the meetings in different regions.

One of the teams, led by Masvingo South legislator Tanatsiwa Mukomberi, is holding its session in Epworth, where residents are expected to raise their concerns and priorities for consideration in the upcoming fiscal plan.

The budget consultations provide an opportunity for communities to influence government spending priorities in key areas such as health, education, infrastructure development, and social services. The input collected will feed into the formulation of the 2026 National Budget, which is expected to be presented later this year.
