ZIMBABWE’S T20I campaign against Afghanistan ended in disappointment after a seven wicket defeat in the second match at Harare Sports Club on Friday.

The visitors chased down a modest 126 run target with two overs to spare, thanks to an unbeaten half century from opener Ibrahim Zadran, who anchored the innings with 57 off 51 balls. Afghanistan reached 129/3 to clinch the series 2-0 ahead of Sunday’s dead rubber.

Zimbabwe, who won the toss and opted to bat, failed to build momentum and were bundled out for 125 in 19.3 overs. Captain Sikandar Raza top scored with 37 runs, while Tony Munyonga (19) and Brian Bennett (16) offered brief resistance. But the hosts kept losing wickets at key stages, never recovering from the early pressure.

Afghanistan’s bowlers were relentless, with Rashid Khan producing a stunning spell of 3/9 from three overs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Abdollah Amadzai chipped in with two wickets each to suffocate Zimbabwe’s batting line up.

The result gives Afghanistan an unassailable lead in the three match series, leaving Zimbabwe playing for pride in the final game on Sunday at Harare Sports Club.
