The Rural Electrification Fund has successfully electrified 195 institutions as of September 30, an official has said.
Rural Electrification Agency Acting Chief Executive Officer Ms Felistas Makumbinde revealed this during her project presentation at the commissioning of the US$228,104 Leanwood, Alpha, Montrose electrification project at Alpha Primary School.
The electrification project, which began on August 7, 2024, was completed in November of the same year. It brought power to four institutions: Alpha Primary School, Montrose Clinic, the local business centre, and Leanwood Business Centre.
“Institutions that have been electrified as at September 30 this year number 195 while 37 are outstanding,” said Ms Makumbinde.She detailed the breakdown of electrified institutions, noting, “Statistics include 68 and 25 primary and secondary schools, 21 clinics, 27 business centres, 12 small scale farms, 21 village group schemes and all four homesteads of local chiefs.”
On the national front, Ms Makumbinde added, “We have completed 294 projects with 170 being work in progress.”
