PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has commenced the formal process to establish a Tribunal to inquire into the removal from office of High Court Judge, Justice Never Katiyo.
The move follows a recommendation submitted by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to the President, acting in terms of Section 187 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
Attorney-General Mrs Virginia Mabiza confirmed the initiation of the process, indicating that all necessary preliminary procedures have been duly completed in line with the law.
“Following a recommendation from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in terms of Section 187 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency, the President has initiated the process to establish a Tribunal to inquire into the question of the removal from office of High Court Judge, Honourable Justice Never Katiyo,” said Mrs Mabiza.
Mrs Mabiza said the groundwork for the Tribunal’s composition is already underway.
A statement from the AG’s office reads: “The Attorney General has confirmed that all preliminary procedures have been undertaken, including a formal request to the Law Society of Zimbabwe to furnish a list of legal practitioners, one of whom will be appointed to serve on the Tribunal in accordance with the law.”
