IN a move aimed at strengthening ruling party structures and community engagement, President Mnangagwa yesterday launched a US$200 000 revolving empowerment fund for Zanu PF wings in Zone 1, Chitungwiza.

The initiative, which allocates US$50 000 to each of the party’s four wings — the main wing, Women’s League, War Veterans’ League and Youth League — reflects the party’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation.

Speaking at his maiden inter-district meeting aimed at delivering resolutions from the 22nd Annual National People’s Conference, newly co-opted Zanu PF Central Committee member Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei said the money will empower all party wings in Zone 1.

“The Empowerment Fund will be managed by the province,” said Dr Tagwirei, underscoring the focus on localised governance.

In addition to the fund, Dr Tagwirei pledged to drill 80 boreholes within Chitungwiza to enhance water access for residents.

“We are going to drill 16 boreholes per constituency in the five constituencies in Chitungwiza,” he stated.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to address water scarcity, a pressing issue in many urban areas. Further, he announced plans to distribute 12 500 hampers as Christmas gifts to the community, aiming to foster goodwill among residents.

Dr Tagwirei’s announcement was met with enthusiasm from the crowd, with 20 000 party members and affiliates attending the inter-district meeting at the Aquatic Complex.

At the meeting, Dr Tagwirei presented the feedback report on the recent 22nd Annual People’s Conference, which highlighted efforts towards revitalising key sectors in the economy. The party’s secretary for Education, Research and Ideology, Cde Charles Tavengwa, offered a detailed analysis of the party’s current standing. “Resolution Number One, which aims to extend President Mnangagwa’s term of office beyond 2028, was endorsed by all conference delegates. No objections were raised concerning the resolution,” said Cde Tavengwa.

This resolution aims to ensure that President Mnangagwa can see through impactful projects, including infrastructure development and inflation control, enhancing the country’s economic stability.

Among the prominent figures present were Zanu PF Politburo members, including Cde Omega Hungwe, Secretary for War Veterans Cde Douglas Mahiya, Deputy Secretary for Security Cde Tendai Chirau and Deputy Secretary for Economic Affairs Cde Andy Mhlanga.
