THE construction of Toendepi Polyclinic in the Vuto area in Shurugwi District in the Midlands Province is nearing completion, bringing hope to over 2 000 villagers who will soon have access to quality healthcare services.

The facility, a result of a collaborative effort between the Government and Tongogara Rural District Council (RDC), is expected to reduce the distance villagers travel to seek medical attention.

Healthcare delivery is a key pillar driving economic development, as outlined in the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and the Second Republic’s Vision 2030 to become an upper-middle-class economy, making this development a major step towards achieving the country’s aspirations.

Traditional leaders and residents have welcomed the development, citing the challenges they faced in accessing healthcare services.

Chief Banga, who toured the facility recently, said the polyclinic is expected to be a game-changer for the community, providing much-needed healthcare services and improving the overall well-being of the villagers.

“The project, implemented through a partnership between the Government and the RDC, is part of broader national efforts to achieve equitable healthcare access in line with Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1),” he said.

The chief said the clinic will offer prompt medical care when it becomes operational.

“This facility will be kept busy serving the large population. It will be beneficial as locals won’t have to travel far to access clinics and hospitals,” he said.

“We are pleased that with the clinic up and running, we will witness a reduction in preventable deaths, as residents will receive timely assistance nearby.”

Villagers also commended the Government for spearheading the construction of the health facility, which they say is coming at a time when they were being forced to travel for over 10 kilometres to access the nearest health facility.

Ms Gertrude Nyambo said the new clinic is strategically positioned.

“Women are often disproportionately affected by limited healthcare access, as they typically care for their families, so reducing the distance to healthcare services will be a significant relief, especially given the transport challenges they face, which often force them to walk long distances,” she said.
