There is a syndicate fundraising US$200 000 for bribing officials dealing with the rape and fraud cases facing Prophetic Healing and Deliverance founder Walter Magaya.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said in a statement yesterday that the funds would be used to attempt to compromise police investigators, prosecutors, magistrates and judges, among others.

He warned the individuals and syndicates involved against obstructing justice in the ongoing investigations and court proceedings against Magaya.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is fully aware of coordinated efforts by a team led by Albertina Saikonda based in South Africa to raise funds to the tune of USD200 000 or more in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Australia,” he said.

“The money will then be used to approach and compromise police investigators, prosecutors, magistrates and judges, among others, so as to derail the whole criminal investigations and court proceedings.”

Comm Nyathi said the police were closely monitoring the situation, adding that anyone caught attempting to interfere with justice will face arrest and prosecution.

“We warn individuals, groups and associates that they will be arrested as the law will definitely take effect without fear or favour,” said Comm Nyathi.

“The police is monitoring what is happening with a very keen interest for the effective maintenance of law and order and justice delivery.”

“All potential witnesses should report anyone dangling any form of offers or cash or promises, to the police for swift action to be taken.”

People can contact the police on 0776 830 226, the National Complaints line (0242) 703 631 and WhatsApp number 0712 800 197, said Comm Nyathi.

Magaya, who was arrested on November 1, is facing fraud and rape allegations.

He is on US$3 000 bail and is expected back in court on Tuesday.
