THE matter regarding the co-option of Presidential Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara as a member of the Zanu PF Central Committee in Manicaland province will be addressed at the next Politburo meeting, the party’s secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa, said yesterday.
The Zanu PF Manicaland Provincial Coordinating Committee recently recommended Dr Tungwarara for co-option into the Central Committee.
He is set to replace Cde Dorothy Mabika, who stepped down earlier this year and was subsequently elected chairlady of the Manicaland Women’s League.
The nomination of Dr Tungwarara was made by provincial Youth League member Cde Victoria Saunyama and was seconded by Makoni District Coordinating Committee chairman, Cde Kudzi Chipanga.
Dr Tungwarara has accepted the recommendation and has promised to support the party’s initiatives in the province.
Speaking at a press conference in Harare yesterday, Cde Mutsvangwa clarified the situation, dispelling concerns about confusion surrounding Central Committee nominations in Manicaland.
“The correct position is that the party takes serious respect for the deliberations of the provincial leadership of Manicaland,” he said.
“It is an important organ of the party, particularly for Manicaland, which has the second-largest population after Harare.”
Cde Mutsvangwa said the actions and decisions of the Manicaland leadership are taken seriously by the party.
“The appearance of confusion will be addressed in the usual manner, similar to what was done in the case of Harare province, and it will be resolved at the Politburo level.
“For anyone who has anxieties about what is going on, hold your gun; the Politburo will meet, and the matter will be considered.
“A final decision will be delivered on the Central Committee nomination for Manicaland,” Cde Mutsvangwa said.
