HARARE City Council will on Tuesday evening switch on Christmas lights at Africa Unity Square in a ceremony set to officially mark the beginning of the festive season in the capital.

The event, which is expected to draw people from different backgrounds, will feature a line-up of musicians with musician Tocky Vibes headlining the entertainers at the ceremony.

In a statement, the City of Harare said the festivities will include a procession from Town House along Julius Nyerere Way and into Nelson Mandela Avenue then into Africa Unity Square.

Harare Mayor, Councillor Jacob Mafume, will lead the ceremony by officially switching on the lights and delivering a keynote address.

“The City wishes residents and visitors a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. All residents are invited,” reads the statement.

Cllr Mafume said the programme will cater for families, with a range of performances planned for the evening.

“Besides the popular Tocky Vibes, there will be lots of entertainment, including the evergreen municipal band, Father Christmas and more,” he said.

The City urged residents to attend the event in large numbers and to bring children to enjoy what he described as a fun-filled occasion marking the start of festive season celebrations in Harare.
