national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul NyathiTHE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a brutal multiple murder that occurred on the night of December 11 this year, where a suspect identified as Anymore Zvitsva allegedly killed five members of the same family at Ona Farm in Guruve.
In a statement yesterday, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Zvitsva allegedly murdered five members of the same family, including a female adult, her two children and two grandchildren.
He identified the victims as Grace Zvitsva (66), Loice Chiringaushe (37), Takudzwa Kariva (5), Tatenda Chirenje (2) and Tendai Zvitsva (40).
Nyathi said initial investigations showed that a neighbour was alerted by the noise coming from the homestead and rushed to investigate.
On arrival, the neighbour, who was accompanied by two villagers, observed bloodstains at the kitchen doorstep and found Grace unconscious and bleeding profusely with deep cuts on the chest.
Nyathi said: “Further checks revealed extensive bloodstains around the homestead with the bodies of Grace Zvitsva, Loice Chiringaushe, Takudzwa Kariva and Tatenda Chirenje lying in the main bedroom.”
He said other people at the homestead survived the attack.
“The search continued in other rooms leading to the rescue of five of Grace’s grandchildren who were sleeping in a spare bedroom unharmed,” he said.
Nyathi said Tendai was taken to hospital where he succumbed his injuries.
He said the police said they had escalated efforts to track down the suspect.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has intensified the search for the suspect with the aid of drone technology and manhunt teams comprising Support Unit, Criminal Investigations Department, Canine, Horse patrols and intelligence units to conduct close surveillance in the forest and mountain where the suspect is alleged to be hiding,” he said.
Nyathi said the local community was also involved in the search, adding that the community, which included traditional leaders, had teamed up with the police to ensure the suspect is arrested.
He said the suspect was linked to recent murder cases in Zimuna village, Chief Bepura, where Pamela Chipangura, Kudzai Chipangura and Tawanda Chipangura were killed in circumstances being probed by the police.
Police have appealed to members of the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
“Anyone with information which may lead to the arrest of the suspect should feel free to contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197 or report at any nearest police station,” Nyathi said.
