ACCESS to clean and reliable water is improving livelihoods in Seke constituency following the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole in ward 1 under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The borehole, which serves both rural and urban wards in the area, marks the first phase of a programme to drill 10 boreholes across the constituency as part of ongoing efforts to improve basic service delivery.
Speaking during a tour of the project, Seke Member of Parliament Munyaradzi Kashambe said the initiative was prioritised to address the immediate need for potable water.
“Water is life. When communities have access to clean and reliable water, health improves and families are able to focus on productive economic activities,” he said.
Kashambe said additional borehole sites were identified, with implementation set to take place in phases to ensure equitable distribution of the resource across the constituency.
Beyond water provision, the constituency is also working towards the establishment of 10 village business units aimed at stimulating local economic growth, promoting value addition and supporting income-generating activities.
Preparatory work for the first units is underway.
“We are ensuring that public resources are put to good use for the benefit of our people,” he said.
Residents welcomed the development, with women in particular expressing relief after years of walking long distances in search of water.
Rumbidzai Moyo, a resident of ward 1, said the borehole had significantly eased daily hardships.
“We used to wake up very early to look for water and sometimes return empty-handed. Now clean water is close to our homes,” she said.
Tawanda Chikore, a resident of Seke Rural, said the project demonstrated accountability and tangible development.
“This is a development we can see. It shows seriousness and proper use of CDF,” he said.
Beneficiaries said the project laid a solid foundation for further borehole drilling and economic empowerment initiatives aimed at uplifting communities across the Seke constituency.
