Hundreds of municipal workers, who are members of the Combined Municipal Workers Union of Zimbabwe (CMWUZ), are set to benefit from residential stands after securing a land deal in Kadoma.
The deal will see municipal workers mainly from Mashonaland West province benefiting, while willing members from outside the province are set to benefit.
The land deal marks a significant step in improving the welfare of municipal workers, giving them an affordable pathway to home ownership through flexible payment schemes.
The mega project will be officially launched in the Mandalay area, about 3km from Kadoma City Centre, on January 31.
“We have secured land In Mandalay, Kadoma, where our members are going to benefit from affordable low-density residential stands,” said CMWUZ chairperson, Shadrack Chikore.
The Kadoma residential stands measure from 600sqm to 2 000sqm.
Chikore added that CMWUZ also secured land for those interested in constructing houses in high-density areas.
“The other good thing is that we also secured high-density residential stands measuring from 300 to 600sqm in the Pixie Combie area, about 5km from Kadoma CBD,” he said.
“The theme is build now and pay later, with our members paying 30% for construction commencement, while the rest is paid in three years. The flexible rates and terms will help a long way to alleviate poverty among municipal workers,” Chikore said.
CMWUZ also launched its housing pay scheme in Norton recently, before allocating residential stands in the first phase of the project.
The union secured several stands from private land developer Beyond Reality Cooperative for its members.
In Norton, some CMWUZ beneficiaries have begun constructing houses on their pieces of land.
CMWUZ was formed in 2023 with the objectives of protecting municipal workers’ rights and improving their welfare.
The union comprises municipal workers drawn from several local authorities across the country.
