Businessman and former Shabanie Mashava Mines (SMM) owner Mr Mutumwa Mawere has died.
He was 66.
Mr Mawere died in South Africa today and is believed to have succumbed to complications from a stroke he suffered in 2024.
His elder brother, Mr Vincent Mawere, confirmed the death.
“I received the news that my brother passed on in South Africa where he was staying. He suffered a stroke in 2024,” said Mr Mawere.
“However, I am yet to get full details about what actually transpired.”
Mr Mawere was a prominent businessman who owned SMM in the mid-1990s, with the business being the country’s sole asbestos mining company.
Mr Mawere was based in South Africa.
