Pothole patching is currently underway along Seke Road following complaints from residents and motorists in the area, with reconstruction of the entire road set to commence next month.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has confirmed these developments.

“Pothole patching is currently in progress along Seke Road, from the Unit H turn-off to Makoni Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza. This essential maintenance aims to improve your journey and enhance road safety for everyone. Please expect minor delays in the area while our crews are working.

“We also take this opportunity to inform you that reconstruction of Seke Road will commence in February 2026,” the Ministry stated.

Plans are also underway to widen and construct dedicated bus lanes along Seke Road, following an increase in fatal road traffic accidents along this highway.

In August last year, 17 people lost their lives at Hunyani Bridge along Seke Road in a tragic accident involving a commuter omnibus and a 30-tonne haulage truck.

During the same month, more than 20 people were injured when a commuter omnibus travelling from Ziko to Harare’s Central Business District burst a front tyre and veered off the road near Chinhamo Service Station.

In a recent interview, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said the Government will begin widening the road that connects Harare to its most populous dormitory town, Chitungwiza.

“What we are doing is creating a dedicated bus lane, and my team is currently focused on that. We will also be widening the road to include more lanes, creating an expressway right up to Makoni Section and straight to Ten Miles,” he said.
