Mob beats man senseless, knocks out teeth B-Metro Reporter
A MAN will spend six years behind bars after leading a savage mob attack that nearly cost a Zvishavane shop assistant his life.
Mthulisi Mangena (26) was jailed by the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder following a vicious midnight assault outside a packed nightclub.
The incident occurred on 14 December 2025 shortly after midnight.
The victim was relaxing inside the club when a woman seated next to him was suddenly accused of stealing a watch. She was dragged outside by Mangena and his accomplices.
Sensing danger, the victim followed.
That, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), is when hell broke loose.
The gang turned on him, shouting “Ndiye umwe wacho” meaning “He is the other one” before launching a brutal attack.
He was smashed on the back of the head with a beer bottle, sending him crashing to the ground.
While helpless, the mob kicked, stomped and battered him with stones and a metal object. His attackers robbed him of US$354 and his house keys.
Mangena tried to stab the victim with an okapi knife, but was stopped by another gang member.
The bleeding victim was forced into a black Toyota Aqua, driven away from the scene and later dumped unconscious along Escrow Way.
The injuries were devastating.
He suffered deep cuts to the head, lost three teeth, had another tooth broken and was left with severe bruising to the face and arms. Doctors confirmed the injuries are permanent.
The NPAZ said violence of this nature will not be tolerated, warning that those who turn public places into war zones will face stiff punishment.
