THE Redcliff Municipality has reduced its 2026 budget to US$19 million, down from US$25 million the previous year, as part of efforts to align expenditure with available revenue while maintaining efficient service delivery.
Redcliff Municipality public relations manager, Mr Michael Magoronga, confirmed the development.“The Municipality of Redcliff is pleased to announce that its 2026 Budget amounting to US$19,4 million has been approved by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works in terms of Section 47 (1) of the Public Finance Management Act (Chapter 22:19),” he said.
Mr Magoronga said the approved budget reflects a significant reduction from the 2025 allocation, highlighting council’s commitment to matching spending with actual revenue inflows while prioritising essential services.
“The approval has been granted on condition that council expedites the completion of its outstanding audits. We are pleased to advise that the 2024 audit has already been completed and Council is currently working on finalising the 2025 audit, thereby complying with the Government directive,” he said.
He added that, in line with Central Government’s drive to promote ease of doing business and attract investment, the council had reduced business rates by 10 percent in the 2026 budget. In addition, revenue from licences has been decreased by approximately 66 percent in compliance with Government directives on fee reduction.
“These deliberate interventions are aimed at making operating costs more affordable and creating a more conducive environment for businesses,” said Mr Magoronga.
He said the measures were expected to support local enterprises and stimulate economic growth in Redcliff. However, he urged the business community to play its part by paying rates on time to ensure the council can continue providing effective services.
He appealed to all ratepayers to settle their current bills promptly and encouraged those with outstanding arrears to clear them, noting that unpaid dues negatively impact council operations.
“Ratepayers facing financial challenges are encouraged to approach council to arrange workable payment plans to ensure mutually beneficial solutions. The Municipality of Redcliff remains committed to improving service delivery and enhancing the livelihoods of its residents,” he said.
