The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is replacing temporary safety drums with reinforced concrete barriers at the intersection of Robert Mugabe Way and 8th Avenue as part of efforts to improve traffic control and road safety.
The installation follows a temporary road closure to allow for the removal of the existing drums and the fitting of a more permanent solution at the busy junction.
The project is being supported by Neddicky Industries, which donated 50 metres of concrete safety barriers towards the upgrade.
According to Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube, the reinforced concrete barriers were installed to provide a more durable and permanent safety solution.
“The closure is to facilitate the removal of existing drums and install reinforced concrete safety barriers at the intersection of Robert Mugabe Way and 8th Avenue,” he said.
He added that the new barriers would improve traffic control and enhance protection for both motorists and pedestrians.
Ms Kiletetsoi Dube from the Sales and Marketing Department at Neddicky Industries said the company undertook the project as part of its commitment to community development and road safety.
“We are glad to be given the opportunity to do this by the City Council, and we hope to continue contributing to the community in which we operate,” she said.
The partnership reflects the importance of cooperation between private companies and local authorities in building a safer and more organised city.
