SALLY Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare is set to undergo a three-phase refurbishment programme, authorities have said.
Health and Child Care ministry spokesperson Donald Mujiri said the first phase, which is underway, would focus on the hospital’s three-storey building that previously housed family support services.
“Phase one will transform this building to a state-of-the-art facility featuring a full-fledged eye unit and theatre, a specialised kangaroo unit for nursing mothers, and a modern foetal monitoring unit,” he said.
“Family support services and PMU [preventive and maternal unit], among other critical health services, will also be accommodated within the upgraded building.”
According to Mujiri, the refurbishment goes beyond structural upgrades.
“We are improving water reticulation systems and other hospital infrastructure to ensure reliable and high-quality healthcare delivery for all patients,” he said.
The initiative forms part of government efforts to modernise public health facilities across the country, according to Mujiri.
He said this was intended to enhance patient care, expand specialised services and address long-standing gaps in hospital infrastructure.
