THE City of Kadoma has shown enthusiasm to tap into the success of Geo Pomona Waste Management operations
Speaking to the media after touring the waste management firm’s facility in Harare last Friday, Kadoma acting Town Clerk Mr Willard Mangwengwende expressed satisfaction with what he had seen.
Such operations, he said, needed to be replicated in Kadoma.
This initiative reflects Kadoma’s commitment to improving environmental practices and enhancing waste management strategies within the community.
“The purpose of our visit is to appreciate how (Geo Pomona) operates, because we also intend to replicate the same in Kadoma.
“So we wanted to make an informed decision, that’s why we made this tour.
“Very impressive, I have been impressed by the general outlook of everything that we have seen, the facilities and everything, so we feel that we can actually replicate this in Kadoma,” he said.
The acting town clerk said the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility was one of the finest he had ever seen in Southern Africa.
“We are impressed, generally it’s a very good facility.
“I have visited some in Southern Africa and I see this is one of the best I have seen,” said Mr Mangwengwende.
City of Kadoma director for health Mr Daniel Chirundu said it was pleasing to note that Geo Pomona was carrying out its operations in an eco-friendly way.
“We are happy with what we are seeing here at Geo Pomona particularly that waste is being sorted in an environmentally-friendly manner,” he said.
Geo Pomona chief executive and executive chairman Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said the continuous endorsement of the firm was evidence that they were fulfilling their mandate.
“This means that Geo Pomona is leading in terms of waste management.
“People are coming here to learn and to appreciate what Geo Pomona is doing.
“As you are aware that as Geo Pomona, we started this in 2022, but if you check the transformation that has happened here, it’s big transformation,” he said.
“This was a place where people used to avoid, but now it’s a place where people come.”
At present Geo Pomona waste management employs 1 200 people which Dr Nguwaya said was in line with aspirations of the attainment of Vision 2030.
