PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is today expected to preside over this year’s performance contract signing ceremony for Cabinet ministers and senior public sector officials as well as the awards ceremony which will honour those who excelled.
The dual fixture, slated for Harare this morning, is part of the Government’s quest to enhance accountability and transparency among public officials.
These contracts, which will outline specific performance targets, are seen as a critical step in ensuring that Government officials are held accountable for their actions and the delivery of services to the public.
It aligns with the Second Republic’s broader vision of reforming the civil service and improving governance.
In a statement to the media, the Government reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and attainment of national objectives through keeping public sector officials accountable.
“Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency the President, Cde Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe is making steady progress towards becoming a prosperous and empowered upper middle income society by 2030,” read part of the statement.
The journey is part of a larger global vision, aligning with SADC’s Vision 2050, Africa’s Agenda 2063, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“As we transition into NDS2, the nation celebrates tangible results of NDS1, with major milestones reached in key economic sectors such as agriculture, mining, manufacturing, tourism, banking, and others.
“To keep this momentum going, accountability remains the key factor. Under NDS2, the Government continues to use Performance Contracts to monitor, measure and evaluate thousands of projects across all sectors of the economy.”
The contracts will ensure that every leader is held responsible for delivering tangible results that improve the livelihoods of Zimbabweans through economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation.
“On Monday, 16 March 2026, the leaders responsible for these projects, our ministers and all senior public sector officials will gather at the Rainbow Towers for the 2026 performance contracts signing and awards ceremony!!
“See the scores, hear the results and celebrate the winners who are helping to accelerate the momentum towards Vision 2030,” reads part of the statement.
The Government said the process matters because in the Second Republic, what gets measured, gets done.
The signing of performance contracts is part of a larger global vision, aligning with Sadc’s Vision 2050, Africa’s Agenda 2063, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Government said as the country transitions into National Development Strategy 2, it takes the opportunity to celebrate the tangible results achieved under NDS1.
