Municipality councillors and management have met with Chegutu West Legislator Cde Shacky Timburwa to discuss service delivery and strategise on ways to attain city status by 2030.
The dialogue was part of efforts to enhance service delivery and coordination between the municipality and the Member of Parliament.
Cde Timburwa said the goal was to form a united front that would drive development and mobilise resources through the private sector and the Government.
“Central Government lists the number of projects that it funds in a particular year and through working together as different arms, we should be able to have at least three or four projects funded by Government in the Blue Book,” said Cde Timburwa.
“I want us to create rapport between my office and council to ensure that every entity or person who is in a position to help Chegutu develop is engaged. This means the MP needs to know everything happening in the town.”
He said there was need for communication between the council and residents to ensure they know how much they have paid, how much was able to be done and what was outstanding owing to their failure to fully pay for services.
Town clerk Mr Jacob Chikuruwo said the MP could help broker synergies with companies in the town to chip in with heavy-duty equipment needed for road maintenance and sewer infrastructure rehabilitation.
“This dialogue is important in helping foster partnerships to enhance service delivery. At the end of the workshop, we have to come up with some action plan with immediate, medium and long-term goals,” said Mr Chikuruwo.
Councillor Clever Kunonga (Ward 9) hailed the MP for organising the interface with councillors as an important step in enhancing service delivery.
“We have a vision to become a city by 2030 and such engagements set the right conditions for the attainment of that vision,” said Cllr Kunonga.
“Chegutu is developing and we need to accelerate that growth so that our residents are happy.”
Proportional Representative and chairperson of the human resources, Cllr Catrisher Machingura, welcomed the meeting to help set measurable targets that would be reviewed every quarter.
