The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, through its Department of Deeds, Companies and Intellectual Property, has launched a two-week pilot programme aimed at validating and digitally re-issuing property title deeds.

The initiative, which commenced on April 1, 2026, is part of broader efforts to modernise Zimbabwe’s property registration system and improve the security, efficiency and accessibility of land records.

Under the pilot programme, selected law firms have been engaged to assist property owners in transitioning from traditional paper-based title deeds to secure digital records. The process is intended to enhance verification systems, reduce risks of document fraud and streamline property transactions.

Officials say the exercise will also test the effectiveness of digital infrastructure and administrative procedures before a wider national rollout is implemented.

The Department of Deeds indicated that feedback from participating legal practitioners and property owners will be used to refine the system, with a focus on ensuring accuracy, transparency and ease of use.

The move forms part of ongoing government reforms to digitise public records and strengthen property rights management in line with modern governance standards.
