ZIMBABWE made a bold and vibrant impression at the prestigious Passport DC Around the World Tour, positioning itself as a premier African destination, while tapping into one of its fastest-growing tourism markets, the United States of America.
Held on May 2 in Washington, DC, the global cultural showcase brought together over 60 embassies in a celebration of diversity, diplomacy and destination marketing.
The Embassy of Zimbabwe transformed its Chancery into an immersive cultural hub, offering visitors a rich tapestry of the country’s heritage, tourism experiences, cuisine and investment opportunities.
Passport DC is an annual international cultural tourism event that opens embassy doors to the public, allowing thousands of visitors to experience the world in a single city.
Participating countries leverage the platform to promote tourism, culture and trade, making it a powerful soft diplomacy and destination marketing tool.
At the Zimbabwe stand, visitors were welcomed with lively local music curated by a Zimbabwean DJ, while their souvenir passports were stamped upon entry, an experience that added to the authenticity of the global tour. Inside, guests engaged with a dynamic exhibition that blended tradition with modern tourism appeal.
The exhibition featured traditional artefacts, woven crafts, and an interactive cultural display where visitors had the opportunity to play indigenous instruments such as the mbira and hosho creating memorable, hands-on cultural experiences. A cuisine sampling section introduced guests to Zimbabwean flavours, while a dedicated trade and investment desk highlighted opportunities beyond tourism.
The United States continues to emerge as a key source market for Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.
According to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, tourist arrivals from the USA increased from 105 274 in 2024 to 109 959 in 2025.
Notably, the 2025 figure accounted for approximately 22 percent of the total overseas arrivals, which stood at 500 426.
These figures underscore the growing importance of targeted international marketing initiatives such as Passport DC.
By engaging directly with American audiences, Zimbabwe is, not only increasing destination awareness, but also building cultural affinity and travel interest. As the country advances towards its ambitious goal of a US$5 billion tourism economy, such strategic platforms are proving essential in unlocking new growth opportunities.
The success of Zimbabwe’s participation at Passport DC signals a promising trajectory, one where culture, heritage and strategic engagement converge to drive tourism growth and strengthen the country’s global brand.
With increasing arrivals from key markets and a renewed focus on experiential tourism, Zimbabwe is steadily asserting itself as a destination of choice on the global stage.
