GOVERNMENT has issued a notice of a proposal to convert a golf course in Hatfield into a residential development, a move that will see the creation of 17 low-density housing stands.

In a notice issued in terms of Section 49 (4) of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act (Chapter 29:12) on Friday, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works indicated its intention to consent to a change of reservation for the Remaining Extent of Lot 227 Hatfield Township.

The property is currently zoned for use as a golf course under the operative Waterfalls/Hatfield Local Development Plan Number 26.

According to the proposal, the project seeks to transform the recreational space into 17 residential stands, each measuring 2 000 square metres in size.

“The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works is obliged to give public notice of its intention to consent to the change of reservation and transfer of the affected property free from any restrictions limiting the use of the land to Public Open Space,” the notice reads.

Full details of the application have been made available for public inspection at the Chief Director of Spatial Planning and Development offices at the Makombe Building, situated at the corner of Leopold Takawira Street and Herbert Chitepo Avenue.

In line with statutory requirements, the ministry has invited interested parties and residents to weigh in on the proposed development.

Any person wishing to lodge objections or make representations regarding the conversion must do so in writing to the Chief Director of Spatial Planning and Development within 30 days of the first publication of the notice.
