YOU can call him COUNT DRACULA!
Of course, Shepherd Severa is still a suspect, even though police claim he confessed to his chilling crime.
But, what has propelled him into the headlines is a chilling throwback to the age of Count Dracula – the main character in Bram Stoker’s horror novel Dracula.
A number of Dracula movies have been produced, over the years, and they follow a similar theme with Count Dracula biting and sucking blood from his victims and turning them into vampires. While Severa did not turn his victim into a vampire, police say he killed him and, like Count Dracula, sucked his blood.
Ironically, the victim, Bryan Nandana, 29, was also Severa’s friend.
From what has emerged on social media, he was also someone who was well loved by those who knew him.
He was also a very religious man.
He was killed in the early hours of Wednesday and his body was dumped at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare.
According to the police, Severa allegedly lured Nandana to meet him at the Pfukwa Shopping Centre in Warren Park at about 3am on Wednesday morning.
Nandana had been struggling to repay US$2,800 he had borrowed from Severa.
According to sources, the two met and, following a disagreement, a fight broke out.
It is alleged that Severa forcibly grabbed Nandana by the neck and stabbed him with a kitchen knife.
He then allegedly placed the body in the back passenger seats of a white Toyota Aqua vehicle.
He later drove to Warren Hills Cemetery.
Severa sucked blood from Nandana’s body.
He then carried the body on his shoulders before placing it into a shallow grave.
Sources said Severa dumped the blood-stained vehicle after he was spotted by a security guard.
Police said the recovered vehicle, and a dropped phone, helped them identify him.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Severa’s arrest.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Shepherd Severa (28) in connection with a murder case which occurred in Warren Park D, Harare, in which Brian Nandana was killed,” he said.
“The arrest follows the recovery of a blood-stained Toyota Aqua vehicle, registration number AGO 2804, at Warren Hills Cemetery, Harare, on 19th May 2026 at around 0400 hours.”
Commissioner Nyathi said Severa allegedly confessed to killing his friend by cutting his throat with a kitchen knife, before sucking his blood. He said Severa led police to a shallow grave at the cemetery, where the victim’s body was retrieved, showing a deep cut on the neck and a scar on the back of the head.
Some residents of Warren Park D claim the killing may have been carried out for ritual purposes. Meanwhile, the Centre of Hope said Nandana was a beloved pianist.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bryan Nandana, our beloved pianist and a key figure in the Intentional 2026 launch programme.
“Bryan’s dedication, humility, and passion for ministry touched many lives and brought warmth and inspiration to every gathering he served.
“Through his gift of music and unwavering commitment, he helped create moments of worship, hope, and unity that will never be forgotten. His presence among us was truly a blessing, and his contribution to the vision and success of the programme remains deeply appreciated.
“As Centre of Hope, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
“Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in the promise of the resurrection and the hope we have in Christ.”
