FOREIGN Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira, on behalf of President Mnangagwa, yesterday signed the Book of Condolences following the tragic and sudden death of European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mrs Katrin Hagemann.
He said Ambassador Hagemann, who presented her credentials to President Mnangagwa in December last year, would be remembered for her vibrant commitment to building mutually beneficial partnerships and strengthening trade relations, as well as her profound appreciation of Zimbabwean culture.
“This morning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon. Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, visited the @EUinZim Delegation to sign the Book of Condolences following the tragic and sudden passing of the EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E. Ms. Katrin Hagemann.
“Prof Murwira conveyed profound sorrow on behalf of His Excellency President Mnangagwa, the Government, and the nation and extended deep sympathies to the European Union family, colleagues, and the Hagemann family during this difficult hour of grief.
“Her warmth and dedication to fostering constructive relations leave a lasting impact,” said the Minister.
The EU said it was deeply grateful for the expression of solidarity and support from President Mnangagwa, the Government and the people of Zimbabwe during this difficult time.
“The European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe was honoured to receive Hon. Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, who visited the Delegation to convey condolences on behalf of His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and the Government of Zimbabwe, following the passing of H.E. Katrin Hagemann, Ambassador of the European union to Zimbabwe.
“Carolina Cordeiro, Head of Division for Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean at the European External Action Service (EEAS), received Minister Murwira and met with him during his visit.
“Minister Murwira signed the Book of Condolences and conveyed his sympathies to the Delegation, as well as to Ambassador Hagemann’s family, colleagues and loved ones,” wrote the EU on their official X account.
Tributes are pouring in for the late EU diplomat.
The Embassy of Italy in Zimbabwe described Ambassador Hagemann as a warm and gracious colleague, whose presence and dedication would be deeply missed.
“Our thoughts are especially with her family, loved ones and the staff of the EU Delegation, who are facing this heartbreaking loss.
“At this moment of profound sorrow, the Embassy of Italy stands in solidarity with the European Union Delegation and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with her,” said the Embassy in a statement.
In its condolence message, the French Embassy in Zimbabwe said Ambassador Hagemann had been deeply committed to strengthening relations between the EU and Zimbabwe, particularly in the areas of governance, trade, and economic reforms.
“It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the sudden passing of Mrs Katrin Hagemann, the European Union Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe, which occurred on September 3, 2026.”
“In this difficult time, the French Embassy would like to express its deepest sympathy to Mrs Hagemann’s family, her loved ones, and the entire European Union Delegation in Zimbabwe,” said the embassy.
