AIRFORCE of Zimbabwe has been commended for assisting community projects around the country.
The construction of a secondary school in Gokwe left the learners with a secondary examination centre.
Addressing guests at the Charity Horse Race and Air Day, Kozanai Mangezi of Slowgrad Engineering hailed the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe for sharing his vision to assist the less privileged with corporates paved the way in mobilising enough resources to complete the ongoing projects and continue to make positive change within communities.
“I want to begin by thanking the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe, Air Marshal JJ Nzvede for his kind words and for giving me the honour to be a special guest at this Charity Horse Race and Air Day.
“At the same time, I want to congratulate Mashonaland Turf Club for hosting the Race Day and all the winners who walked away with prizes.
“The main objective of this Charity Horse Race and Air Day is to raise funds to support the charity initiatives by the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe Charity Fund.
“The story of the founding of the Charity Fund is both humbling and inspiring.
“Since the founding of the Air Force of Zimbabwe in 1980, we have seen them carrying out various community assistance projects.
“However, in 2011, the organisation realised that these projects needed to be complemented by a Charity Fund, wholly dedicated to identifying and fulfilling the needs of selected disadvantaged people and communities in Zimbabwe,” said Mangezi.
He said since then, the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe Charity Fund has delivered numerous projects and carried out programs that have transformed lives. “In our daily lives, we all see these disadvantaged people and communities, but it is only a few among us who are willing to take steps to help and empower them.
“What I have come to appreciate and learn from the Charity Fund, is that good deeds are never done for glory but to positively impact the lives of people.
“The model use by the Charity Fund is inspired by the adage that, ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’.
To this end, the Charity Fund identifies areas of need through impact assessment and then share these challenges with willing partners to find sustainable solutions,” he said.
Mangezi shared with guests the story of Simuchembu Secondary School in Gokwe North where an assessment carried before outbreak of Covid-19 saw the need for a secondary school be registered as an examination centre.
The Charity Fund partnership with the Midlands State University in the assessment.
The Charity Fund committed to construct an Administration Block and a Sciences Laboratory. Resources were mobilised to first construct the Administration Block and the construction is expected to be complete by January 2027.
“It is anticipated that on completion of the block, the school will be registered as an examination centre. The next challenge is to mobilise resources for construction of the laboratory.
“While the Simuchembu project is underway, the Charity Fund has responded to the needs for medical facilities for communities in Mandizha in Rusape, (Manicaland Province) and Malibeng, in Beitbridge (Matabeleland South Province),” said Mangezi.
