President Mnangagwa has said the choice of Maphisa, Matabeleland South Province, as the venue for this year’s 46th Independence celebrations reflects Government’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity.

Addressing the 130th Session of the Central Committee in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa said the decision also ensures that all regions have an opportunity to meaningfully enjoy the fruits of hard‑won independence and development.

He said all provinces will be given a chance to host Independence commemorations.

“As we look ahead and focus on the commemorations of our 46th Independence anniversary, this year’s national celebrations will be held in Maphisa, Matabeleland South Province,” said President Mnangagwa.

The celebrations will be held under the theme: “Zimbabwe at 46: Unity in Action and Development in Motion Towards Vision 2030.” The President said the choice of venue aligns with the Second Republic’s bold decision to decentralise key national events.

“This reflects our commitment to inclusivity and national unity, while giving all regions an opportunity to meaningfully enjoy the fruits of our hard‑won freedom, independence and development.”

President Mnangagwa announced that numerous Independence legacy projects were underway — not only in Maphisa or Matobo District, but across Matabeleland South.

He highlighted the construction of the Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo Vocational Training Centre, which will positively impact the empowerment and skills development opportunities for youths in the region.

Other projects include the construction of an additional block at the J.M.N. Nkomo Polytechnic College in Gwanda.

“The upgrade of infrastructure and equipping of science laboratories in schools throughout the province, as well as facelifts to historic schools such as Manama High, Minda Mission and Thekwane, among others, are progressing well.

“Kezi Rural Hospital is also being modernised. Road rehabilitation is underway across all districts. Zanu PF is leaving no one and no place behind,” said President Mnangagwa.

He urged all party structures across all provinces to mobilise people to celebrate the important national day.

“This should not only be in honour of the sacrifices that brought us independence, but also as a demonstration of the confidence and optimism we all have for a more prosperous future for our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe,” President Mnangagwa said.
