Broadcasting has long transcended its function as a mere medium; it stands as a reflection of our societies, a conduit uniting diverse communities, and an instrument of transformation, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has said.

In a speech, he stated that communication has evolved from the use of drums, trumpet horns, and fire alarms to the current digital broadcasting platforms.

“Early communication systems recognised the profound power of communication in fostering unity and shared purpose. We are now living in a global village where broadcasting transcends vast distances, informing, educating, and empowering our communities in real-time,” he said.

Broadcasting, he added, stands as a vital instrument through which our collective identities, values, and aspirations are articulated in the modern world.

“I am elated with the speed at which the Second Republic, under the astute leadership of His Excellency, President Dr ED Mnangagwa, has expedited media reforms which have nurtured and enhanced access to information.

“Since the inception of the Second Republic, Zimbabwe now boasts 14 community radio stations, seven campus radio stations, several private commercial stations, and six television stations. This commendable achievement has empowered our communities to express themselves.

“Our mandate, therefore, is to ensure the sustainability of these operationalised media channels as we fight and resist the adverse effects of advancing global hegemony from powerful nations. I implore every one of us to be guided by the principles of Pan-Africanism as we execute our duties in the broadcasting sector,” said the Minister.
