A 48-year-old woman from Gweru is battling an undiagnosed breast tumour that went unnoticed for nearly two years.
The condition was only recently revealed to her daughter, Phyllis Mavushe, who is urgently seeking financial assistance for her mother’s medical treatment. Medical reports indicate that Winnet Weale needs to undergo various examinations to determine the cause of the tumour.
“It all began in October 2024 when my breasts were examined, and a small lump was detected,” she said.
Despite being referred to a specialist for further evaluation, financial constraints have prevented her from receiving the necessary medical attention.
“I did not want to be a burden to my family, as my husband earns too little, and my firstborn daughter works as a volunteer and part-time maid just to make ends meet.”
Despite her strong faith, Winnet’s condition has only worsened over time.
“I now urgently need financial assistance for my medical treatment. We still do not know what this tumour is, as I have not been able to pay for necessary tests like a biopsy and CT scan which cost around US$800.”

Her daughter, Phyllis revealed that she only recently became aware of her mother’s silent struggle.
“For nearly two years, my mother has been battling this painful breast tumor while trying to spare me from financial worries.“I noticed her deteriorating health and confronted her about it. When she finally broke down and showed me, I rushed her to a general practitioner who referred us to a specialist for urgent medical interventions.
“The attending doctor advised us to consult an oncologist and undergoing essential medical tests to properly diagnose the condition.
“We are seeking donations to cover the costs of consultations and initial treatments; however, we do not know how much will be needed for the entire procedure,” she said.
With mounting medical expenses and Winnet unable to work due to her illness, Phyllis is reaching out to the community for support.
“I am appealing for donations from well-wishers, as we need US$600 to cover the initial costs.
I” hope that, with their assistance, my mother can receive the urgently needed treatment and regain her health. Anyone willing to help can reach me directly at 0777019067.
“Your generosity can make a vital difference in my mother’s fight against this debilitating disease,” she added.
