A 76-YEAR-OLD homeless man from Chinhoyi, who is living with a disability, Mr Felix Manhenga, received a brand-new wheelchair and a residential stand from a local property developer this morning.

Mr Manhenga, who is of no fixed abode, was pleasantly surprised when he was presented with the wheelchair at a local supermarket where he often begs for food.

Before he could hold back his tears of joy, the team also presented him with a fully-paid 200-square-meter residential stand in the Monomotapa Vinecity Housing Trust project located in Chinhoyi.

Speaking to Zimpapers after receiving the gifts, Sekuru Manhenga, affectionately known as Matemai, shared that his old wheelchair was causing him significant difficulties, making it hard for him to move from one place to another.

“It was difficult to get from here to the ablution facilities behind the supermarket. I struggled because the old wheelchair refused to move,” he explained.

He even sustained bruises after falling from his old wheelchair. Recently, Sekuru Manhenga was a victim of a robbery, losing his savings of US$49 at the Gadzema Bus Terminus, where he sleeps.

Fortunately, he now not only has a new wheelchair but also a place to build a home through the Vinecity Housing Trust.

The developer called on residents and well-wishers to donate towards the construction of Sekuru Manhenga’s house.
