Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) listed Edgars Stores Limited returned to profit in the half-year to July 6, 2025, after the clothing retailer recorded a total comprehensive profit of US$454 643.
The group’s unaudited results show a substantial turnaround from the prior period, when the company recorded a loss of US$338 292 for the 26 weeks ended 7 July 2024.
The 2025 half-year positive performance was underpinned by a rise in overall revenue, which climbed to US$17,72 million for the six months, an increase from US$16, 08 million in the comparable half-year. The basic profit per share subsequently rose to 0,08 cents, reversing the basic loss per share of 0.06 cents recorded in 2024.
Trading profit saw a marked improvement, reaching US$1,36 million from US$1,01 million year-on-year. The results also reflect an increase in revenue from micro-finance and other debtors, which stood at US$3,64 million.
However, the company confirmed that it will not be declaring a dividend for the half-year, citing a commitment to invest in its supply chain.
In a statement, chairman Mr Themba Sibanda said the successful 2024-2025 agricultural season and firm mineral prices provided a basis for optimism.
Despite the positive results, the group cautioned that liquidity challenges in both local and foreign currency are expected to persist in the short to medium term. Mr Sibanda confirmed the board’s commitment to “prudent financial management and ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of the group”. – Herald
