JOHANNESBURG – South African actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa has emerged victorious in her long and emotionally draining divorce battle against her ex-husband, internationally acclaimed DJ Black Coffee, in a ruling that could see her receive nearly $26 million (approximately R500 million) — half of the DJ’s estimated $60 million (R1.38 billion) fortune.

After six years of legal wrangling, Mlotshwa announced this week that the South Gauteng High Court had ruled in her favour, officially recognising her customary marriage to Black Coffee as valid and in community of property. The decision effectively nullifies the antenuptial contract (ANC) that the DJ, whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo, claimed was in place.

Taking to Instagram, Mlotshwa shared emotional photos and messages thanking her family, friends, and supporters for standing by her through the difficult journey.

“This has been an emotional, spiritual, and deeply personal battle,” she wrote. “I am grateful to those who never gave up on me.”

As part of the court order, Black Coffee has also been directed to pay $790 (R15,000) in monthly spousal maintenance and $2,630 (R50,000) in child support. In addition, Mlotshwa is legally entitled to half of her former husband’s assets, marking one of the most high-profile divorce settlements in South African entertainment history.

The ruling has ignited widespread debate across social media, with fans, legal experts, and public figures weighing in. Many expressed surprise at the court’s decision to overturn the antenuptial contract, while others commended the judgment as a victory for women’s marital rights under the Customary Marriages Act.

However, the DJ’s family appears far from accepting the outcome. Black Coffee’s sister, Lungie Maphumulo, sparked online controversy with a pointed social media post shortly before the ruling, saying:

“Good luck to her. From where I’m standing, I don’t think she will win, but let me wish her well.”

Her comment prompted speculation that the Grammy-winning artist may be preparing to appeal the High Court ruling, with several users suggesting he could attempt to protect his assets before any division takes place.

One commentator wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“Let him appeal; it won’t change the application of the Customary Marriages Act. The court already ruled that all requirements for a customary marriage were met.”

Another added: “If he appeals, it’s a 50-50 chance. But he could lose even more. He should part peacefully with half before the lawyers take it all.”

Despite the public frenzy, Mlotshwa has remained composed, posting subtle but confident messages hinting at closure and new beginnings.

The court’s ruling marks the conclusion of one of South Africa’s most closely followed celebrity divorces, and if upheld, could see Enhle Mbali walk away with a $26 million share of her ex-husband’s vast music and business empire.

Whether Black Coffee will accept the judgment or mount an appeal remains to be seen — but for now, Mlotshwa’s victory stands as a landmark moment in South African family law and celebrity justice.
