GOVERNMENT has formally commenced the implementation of the massive 250 000-stand Manyame Housing Project, working with private sector partners, as part of its accelerated drive to reduce the national housing backlog and deliver affordable accommodation in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030.

Through a notice published in the Gazette last week, the project has entered a legally compliant phase.

According to the notice, Manyame Rural District Council, Pinnacle Property Holdings and Doves Funeral Services have applied for authority to exhume unknown human remains discovered within the project area to allow full servicing and development of housing stands.

The notice, published in terms of the Cemeteries Act (Chapter 5:04), reads in part:

“Notice is hereby given that Doves Funeral Services, Manyame Rural District Council and Pinnacle Property Holding are making an application to undertake the removal of unknown human remains discovered at Lot 1 of Tantallon formerly Tantallon Farm.”

It further invites any affected parties to raise objections within a prescribed period.

“Any person claiming to have any objection to the desired exhumation is hereby required to lodge same, in writing, to the following persons within three (3) months of the first publication of this notice,” read the notice.

The notice lists the responsible officials and contact details from Doves Funeral Services, Manyame Rural District Council and Pinnacle Property Holdings, underscoring that the process is being conducted transparently and in accordance with the  law.

The gazetting of the application marks a critical milestone in the Nyore Nyore (Tantallon Estates) Housing Scheme, one of the flagship housing developments under the Second Republic’s people-centred infrastructure drive.

Government has already entered into an agreement under which Pinnacle Property Holdings will sell 20 000 fully serviced stands to the State, primarily targeting civil servants.

During a tour of the project last year, Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe confirmed Government’s hands on involvement and the imminent commissioning of the scheme by President Mnangagwa.

“We have now taken over the responsibility of supervising the works,” Minister Garwe said at the time, emphasising close collaboration between Government engineers and contractors to ensure quality and compliance.

He noted that while the development might not yet be visibly complete to the general public, progress on essential infrastructure such as roads, drainage and servicing was significant and measurable.

“The project may not yet be fully visible to the public, but to those in the construction industry, this is meaningful progress,” he said.

The project is being implemented strictly under the law, with Bitumen World contracted to construct roads and drainage systems. Services are expected to be completed before any sale or construction of  houses.

Chairman of the Nyore Nyore Housing Scheme and Pinnacle founder, Dr Philip Chiyangwa, said the initiative was anchored on national development priorities and the Second Republic’s social delivery agenda.

“We are providing 250 000 units, including stands, flats and business centres,” Dr Chiyangwa said.

He added that while civil servants would benefit significantly, the project would also create opportunities for the broader public.

“There will be opportunities for the public beyond civil servants to apply for housing,” he said.

Dr Chiyangwa said the development was motivated by the need to assist home seekers who have been priced out by unfavourable terms from some land developers.

“Our terms are amenable and we believe we have a role in nation building through contributing to housing delivery in Zimbabwe,” he said.
