THE Government has reaffirmed its commitment to community-driven development, saying unity, innovation and inclusivity remain key pillars in achieving national development goals under Vision 2030.
Speaking at the Zimbabwe Community Trailblazer Awards held in Harare on Friday, acting Zimpapers Group Editorial Executive Mr Elias Mambo, who was representing the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, said Zimbabwe’s transformation agenda could only be realised through collective effort across communities.
The Minister commended the ZCTA for recognising individuals and organisations making a tangible impact at the grassroots level.
“The theme of this year’s awards, unity in diversity, strength in community, is a testament to the power of working together towards a common goal,” he said.
“Community development is at the heart of national progress, and platforms such as these are vital in celebrating excellence and inspiring others.”
Dr Muswere said Zimbabwe had made notable strides in key sectors including agriculture, tourism and information and communication technology. The country remained on course to achieve Vision 2030.
“In agriculture, Government interventions have increased production and improved food security, with the country recording a bumper harvest in the 2022-2023 season,” he said.
“Significant progress has also been made in irrigation development through the construction of schemes across the country.”
Dr Muswere said tourism had recorded growth following initiatives to position Zimbabwe as a premier destination, while local tourism had also been boosted through domestic travel packages.
In the ICT sector, he said, policies aimed at digital inclusion had resulted in increased internet penetration and mobile phone usage.
Dr Muswere highlighted key policy initiatives supporting development, including the establishment of the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency, the launch of the National Development Strategy 2, the devolution and decentralisation programme, and the Zimbabwe Innovation and Technology Park.
Among the winners at the ceremony were Zimpapers journalists Elias Mambo, Trust Khosa and Liberty Dube, whose achievements were hailed as a source of inspiration.
In an interview, Mr Mambo said the award was a direct result of collective effort and shared commitment across the organisation.
“This award is not about one individual but about the strength of teamwork,” he said.
“It reflects the dedication, discipline and unity of purpose demonstrated by our entire team.”
Mr Mambo emphasised that collaboration had been central to the success of being recognised.
“Every member played a role, from leadership to the grassroots level,” he said. “When people work together with a common vision, achievements such as this become possible.”
Khosa said that the accolade would serve as motivation to sustain high standards.
“This recognition encourages us to work even harder and remain focused on delivering excellence. We will continue to build on this teamwork to achieve greater results in the future,” said Khisa.
