EDURATE Investments, popularly known as Manyame Milling, has invested US$700 000 in the installation of a new milling plant in Marondera as demand for wheat and flour products continues to rise.
Construction of the facility is already underway and the plant is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of next year.
Once operational, it will double the company’s production capacity, strengthening its role in the agro-processing sector.
The development was revealed by the company’s site manager, Mr Nomore Nakwaenda, during a visit to the plant yesterday by Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Itayi Ndudzo.
The minister was on a tour of companies in Marondera to assess their operations and contribution to the province’s gross domestic product.
In an interview after the tour, Adv Ndudzo commended Manyame Milling for responding to national calls for value addition and beneficiation of agricultural produce.
“We are a province known for agricultural productivity in terms of cereals… and our quest in line with Vision 2030 is to move from primary production and blend that with value addition and beneficiation of our agricultural produce,” he said.
“Manyame Milling is at the epicentre of the conversion of our primary products into products with added value.
“They are mainly involved in the milling of wheat.
“You know we are the host to the biggest bakery in the country and the flour the bakery uses is processed here at Manyame Milling.”
