The Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) and the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two nations.

The signing ceremony, a highlight on the sidelines of the 22nd Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Africa and Nordic Countries, took place on Friday in Victoria Falls. The agreement marks a pivotal step towards translating long-standing diplomatic friendship into tangible economic benefits.

The MoU was formally signed by TCCIA President, Mr Vicent Minja, and ZNCC Vice President, Ms Josephine Takundwa. The event was witnessed by high-level dignitaries, including the Tanzanian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Police Commissioner (CP) Suzan Kaganda, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe, Ambassador Albert Chimbindi — underscoring the strategic importance both Governments attach to the partnership.

The core objective of the pact is to promote, develop and facilitate economic collaboration between the private sectors of Tanzania and Zimbabwe. To achieve this, both chambers have committed to a series of joint initiatives, including organising trade missions, exhibitions, workshops and business-to-business meetings.

Furthermore, they will establish a framework for the exchange of vital economic information and data, empowering their members to conduct business more efficiently and enhance productivity.

Speaking soon after the ceremony, ZNCC Vice President, Ms Josephine Takundwa, connected the past with the present economic imperative.

“The two nations share longstanding cordial relations with Tanzania, which date back to the liberation struggle. This historical bond should be transitioned to strengthen trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.

“The agreement proactively seeks to dismantle hurdles to trade, with a specific focus on addressing non-tariff barriers. It also aims to build robust business networks that will connect entrepreneurs and investors from both countries, fostering an environment conducive to initiating joint projects,” she said.

To ensure sustainability, the MoU is set to remain in effect for an initial period of six years, commencing in October 2025. The agreement includes a provision for extension through a formal written consensus, signalling a commitment to long-term collaboration.

This partnership is expected to unlock a new chapter of shared prosperity — creating fresh investment opportunities, increasing employment and strengthening the role of the private sector in driving regional economic growth.

The initiative stands as a testament to the genuine commitment of both Tanzania and Zimbabwe to deepen their economic relations and foster sustainable development across the African continent.
