A Harare man accused of conspiring with armed accomplices to rob a service station by leaking sensitive information on cash movements has appeared in court.

Prosper Zhuwawu, an employee at DA Service Station’s Runiville branch in Highlands, today appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa facing a charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

He was remanded in custody to December 19, when his matter is expected to be consolidated with that of his alleged accomplices, who are already on remand.

The State alleges that in November 2025, Zhuwawu and his accomplices devised a plan to rob the service station, with Zhuwawu playing a key role by supplying insider information on the station’s cash handling routines.

According to prosecutors, Zhuwawu abused his position as an employee to relay critical details about cash movements to his accomplices, who were preparing to execute the robbery.

As part of the plan, one of the accomplices, who has since been arrested, allegedly procured a pistol intended for use during the robbery.

The court heard that on November 30, 2025, Zhuwawu reported for duty at the service station and, while going about his normal work, allegedly provided real-time updates on cash movements to his accomplices, who were conducting surveillance nearby.

Zhuwawu was arrested on December 8, 2025 following investigations into the foiled robbery plot.

Upon his arrest, detectives recovered an iPhone 15 Pro Max allegedly containing incriminating messages linked to the planning and attempted execution of the robbery.

Prosecutors further told the court that an FN Browning pistol bearing serial number 315178, loaded with five rounds of ammunition, as well as a Blowback TR17 blank pistol, were recovered from one of Zhuwawu’s accomplices.

The firearms are alleged to have been intended for use in the planned robbery.

The State also indicated that Zhuwawu does not hold a valid firearms certificate in respect of the recovered weapon.
