FORMER CAPS United and Warriors forward Abbas Amidu, who also had stints in South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt was arrested on Monday along with former Dynamos defender Reuben Mhlanga for alleged drug trafficking.

Police confirmed that the two ex-footballers were caught along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway while transporting a massive consignment of dagga believed to be headed for Harare.

Mhlanga, a former Dynamos and Railstars left-back, and Amidu, who also played for Black Mambas, were driving a silver Honda Shuttle when they were intercepted. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said officers recovered 750kg of dagga worth about US$75,000 from the vehicle.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of soccer players, Tumai Matsika, also known as Abbas Amidu (29), and Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga (41), for drug trafficking. The two were found in possession of 750kg of dagga valued at US$75,000 in a silver Honda Shuttle, registration number AGP 6776, along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway on 03/10/25,” police said in a statement posted on X.

Police also reported a separate arrest at the same time. “Meanwhile, the ZRP arrested Prosper Mphofu (48) at Trabablas Interchange after receiving a parcel containing 60kg of dagga worth US$6,000 from a certain vehicle.”

Authorities said investigations are ongoing, and the consignment is believed to have been destined for Harare.
