HARARE Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume has called for an audit within the council to identify required skills and their appropriate applications.
At a recent full council meeting, Clr Mafume announced plans for a Memorandum of Agreement between the Government and council to facilitate this audit.
He said a team of officials from the council, including the acting town clerk and acting human capital director, met a team from the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development on May 20, regarding council’s skills audit.
The meeting aimed to outline how the audit will be conducted, reflecting the council’s commitment to improve its workforce.
Clr Mafume pointed out the existing mismatch between the skills present within the council and the actual performance requirements.
“The issue was last time, I raised that some of the skills and the performance of council; there is definitely a mismatch in certain areas,” he said.
This recognition of the gap in necessary skills is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness of the council’s operations.
To address these discrepancies, he stressed the importance of determining what skills are needed, how they should be used, and where they are required.
“We need to do a skills audit; what skills do we need, how do we need it and where do we need them and then we target those skills audited,” Clr Mafume explained.
