ZANU PF’s Harare province is embarking on a cell verification exercise to streamline the party’s structures and ensure an accurate count of every member—a key directive from the party’s national leadership.
Provincial chairman, Cde Godwills Masimirembwa, confirmed that the data-capturing initiative is designed to root out inaccuracies and establish genuine, verifiable cells across the province.
Speaking during a meeting with district leaders in Zone 4 on Sunday, Cde Masimirembwa revealed that the party’s Commissariat department has given Harare province an end-of-May deadline to complete the headcount.
“We intend to conduct a leadership verification exercise across our districts, branches, and cells. This will ensure every structure is properly represented, every member is registered with a valid national ID number, and all registered voters have their voter registration numbers correctly recorded.”
Cde Masimirembwa admitted that the ongoing computerisation of party cells had exposed serious data errors.
“What we have found is that in a significant number of our cells, details were not entered correctly. That created the false impression that our cells are not authentic—yet our districts, branches, and cell leadership do exist on the ground,” he explained.
Zone 4 alone, he noted, comprises 33 party districts, with close to 40,000 people holding leadership positions from cell to district level.
“If we can account for them through this process, writing new cells will become much easier. We’re building on existing leadership structures. Once we have this data—by the end of this month—it will be handed over to the data capturing team at national headquarters to ensure Harare province’s cell position is correctly reflected.”
The verification, he added, will be rolled out across all zones—Zone 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6—to complete leadership registration for about 240,000 members by end of May.
“Zone 4 alone has 40,000 leaders. If other zones have similar figures, we’re looking at over 240,000. But some zones are even larger—Zone 6 has 100 districts, Zone 5 has 50, Zone 1 has 50. So Harare’s leadership alone could exceed 250,000. That gives us a solid baseline, and the rest will be captured at cell level.”
He stressed that the exercise is about reflecting the truth on the ground: “This verification will affect the whole of Harare, so that we end up with authentic cells.”
Beyond the verification drive, Cde Masimirembwa reaffirmed the province’s support for the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 and urged party members to continue making written submissions to Parliament—via mail or formal written channels.
